(بسم الله الرحمن الرحيم، والصلاة والسلام على حبيبنا محمد صلى الله عليه وسلم وعلى من اتبع صراطه المستقيم.) In the name of Allah, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful. May peace and blessings be upon our beloved Prophet Muhammad (ﷺ) and upon all those who follow his righteous path.
Dear Readers,
(السلام عليكم ورحمة الله وبركاته.) May Peace, Mercy, and Blessings of Allah be upon you.
Have you ever felt like you are an isolated island standing in a vast sea of people? The noise around you does not come towards you, but moves away. It seems as if your loved ones, your paths to success, even the world you know, are suddenly leaving you behind.
Imagine that night of your life, when all your dreams are shattered, your job is gone, your relationships are shattered, and you are lying alone in a hospital bed. This is the ‘loneliness of choice’. This is a special invitation from Allah to take you away from the noise of the world and bring you closer to Him.
If you feel this way, stop. Because you are not alone. This silence, this isolation — it is not a mistake, not a curse, not even a punishment. Rather, it is a foretaste of the greatest blessing of your life.”
Today, in this blog, we will know some of the important reasons why Allah temporarily leaves His beloved servants alone. These reasons will show you how this painful loneliness of yours can be the most powerful ‘training ground’ in your life. Why did millions of people turn their lives upside down after hearing these words? Read from beginning to end, because this is not just reading — it is the turning point of your life!
1. To protect the heart: Protection from Worldly Contamination:
When we are in a crowd of people, our hearts are easily contaminated by fleeting conversations, comparisons, slander and harmful influences. Allah temporarily keeps his chosen servant away from the noise to protect his precious heart.
"Do not weaken and do not grieve, you will be the winners if you are believers." [Al-Quran, Surah Ale Imran, 3:139]. Allah Believers are told to be free from mental weakness and sorrow, which instructs them to use faith as a shield to face the challenge of loneliness.
The essence of Buddhist philosophy is that ‘attachment is the root of all suffering’. Solitude helps people reduce their attachment to the world and to temporary relationships. It purifies the heart, just as Buddhists seek inner peace by withdrawing from external stimuli through meditation or ‘vipassana’.
2. For Character Building: Self-reflection in the Mirror of Silence:
Solitude is a process of purification from Allah. It forces you to face your inner reality by removing unnecessary distractions.
The Messenger of Allah (ﷺ) said, “Live in the world as if you were a stranger or a traveler.” [Sahih Bukhari, Hadith No. 6416]. This Hadith is about detachment from the world. And teaches detachment, which is achieved through solitude. Just as a pedestrian is not permanently attached to anything, so too does a believer correct his character weaknesses in this solitude.
Austrian psychologist Viktor Frankl (the father of Logotherapy) said, "Everything can be taken away from a person, except for one thing: that last human freedom to choose one's attitude in a given situation, the freedom to choose one's own path." When all external supports are removed, how your character will behave in the extreme moment of solitude - it is through that freedom to choose that attitude that a person forms his true character.
3. To deepen the relationship with Allah: Returning to the only reliable address (Deepening the Relationship with Allah):
When all the pillars of life's trust are removed, then man turns to Allah alone with full heart. This solitude creates a deep dependence and closeness between Allah and the servant.
"Therefore remember Me, and I will remember you. And be grateful to Me, and do not be ungrateful." [Al-Quran, Surah Al-Baqarah, 2:152] . The silence of solitude is the best opportunity to remember Allah with full attention. When you are alone, your every act of worship, every prayer becomes more sincere and profound.
A concept from the Upanishads is, 'The one whose happiness is in his heart, who is active in his heart, who is joyful in his heart and enlightened in his heart—that yogi attains divinity.' The saying indicates that spiritual connection and true joy do not depend on the outside world, but rather lie deep within oneself. Solitude helps in finding that inner joy.
4. Loneliness as a Training Ground: Preparing for the greater goal of the future (Loneliness as a Training Ground)
Allah removes unnecessary relationships or supports from our lives so that we can prepare ourselves for a greater goal with sharper focus. The loneliness of Prophet Yusuf (AS) in the well and prison was a sign of his leadership Preparation.
The Prophet (ﷺ) said, "Whomever Allah wants good for, He tests." [Sahih Bukhari, Hadith No. 5645]. Loneliness is a test, which brings a message of greater good for the chosen ones.
Swiss psychologist Carl Jung said, "Loneliness does not come from not having anyone around, but from not being able to express something important to yourself, or from holding views that others find unacceptable." In this solitude, you understand the unique truth within you. Nurturing this truth is training for your greater goals in the future.
5. Allah's Plan and Patience: Delay Does Not Mean Rejection
Whatever is delayed in life or that you do not get easily is part of Allah's greater plan. This waiting time is not wasted, but rather it is a preparation to strengthen your faith. Prophet Moses (peace be upon him) had to herd sheep alone in the desert for many years before he was given prophethood.
Allah Almighty says, "...indeed, Allah is with the patient." [Al-Quran, Surah Al-Baqarah, 2:153]. Allah tells us to be patient in the long moments of loneliness, because He is with us and is determining the best time for us.
Moses’ forty days of solitude on Mount Sinai and Jesus’ forty days of fasting in the desert (Christian Bible, Matthew 4:1-11) — both of these events indicate that divine isolation or solitude is essential for spiritual and leadership preparation. This time was a time of waiting and self-purification for the greater work.
6. Solitude Purifies Your Intention: A Test of Sincerity (Purifying the Intention)
In the midst of a crowd, we often act for show or to please others. Solitude is a call from Allah — to make our work sincere or devoted to the pleasure of Allah alone.
“And they were commanded only that they should worship of Allah, making their religion sincere to Him…” [Al-Quran, Surah Bayyinah, 98:5]. When no one is watching you, you are still worshipping or working with the same devotion—this solitude is the proof of your sincerity.
Mahatma Gandhi emphasized fasting and solitude in his spiritual journey. His concept of non-violence stems from the inner purity of the heart. He used to say, "Being honest with yourself is the first condition of life." Solitude helps to make work sincere and purpose pure by freeing you from ill intentions or the tendency to show off to others.
7. Prepares for a Unique Responsibility: Special Training for Leadership and Reformation
Every chosen servant has a role in life that only he can play. Solitude is the special training for that difficult role. It was while he was meditating in the cave of Hira that the first revelation came to Prophet Muhammad (PBUH), which changed the history of mankind.
Allah Almighty says, "And those who strive in Our way, We will guide them to Our paths. And indeed, Allah is with the doers of good." [Al-Quran, Surah Ankabut, 29:69]. The mental strength and clarity gained in solitude is the 'struggle', in return for which Allah guides His servant and prepares him to fulfill a unique responsibility.
👉 Psychologist's words (Researched):
Recent psychological research has proven that those who have endured 'social isolation' in childhood or in any difficult situation in life have much greater problem-solving skills and resilience.
This solitude was not meant to break you; it was meant to build you into the strong, irresistible leader or reformer that you can be.
You may be going through the most difficult time of loneliness in your life. But with these 7 reasons, you will understand that this is not the end of your story, but rather the beginning of a new, great chapter. These silent moments of yours were not in vain. Every tear, every lonely prayer—it is all part of a grand plan of Allah. He is elevating you, purifying you, and preparing you for a task that no one else can fulfill.
So from today onwards, accept your loneliness not as a punishment, but as a gift from Allah. Surrender yourself to Allah in this silence. Purify your intentions and be patient. Because, when your foundation is strong, you will become a powerful beacon not only for yourself, but for the entire Ummah.
