Imagine with me, if you will, the plight of young Rafid, barely nine years of age, from the humble lands of Thakurgaon. Life had already etched lines of hardship upon his tender soul. He bore the early loss of his father at the tender age of two, a void his mother bravely filled through relentless toil, often sacrificing her own sustenance to provide for her son. Education, a beacon of hope for many, remained a distant dream due to their meagre circumstances. When young Rafid would innocently enquire about his father, his mother would offer the solace of faith, "Your father is with Allah." A phrase that held a profound truth, yet one that a child's mind struggled to fully grasp.
Then, a shadow fell upon their already challenging existence. Rafid's mother, his sole anchor in this world, succumbed to illness. The vibrant smile that illuminated his days began to fade, casting a pall of darkness over his young world. The diagnosis brought with it a crushing blow—the treatment was beyond their reach, a financial mountain they could not possibly scale.
Tears, the silent language of a child's despair, streamed down Rafid's face. His heart wrestled with a question that echoed the desperation in his soul: who could possibly alleviate his mother's pain? At that moment of utter helplessness, a flicker of hope ignited within him—the words of the mosque's Imam, a beacon of spiritual guidance in their community. The Imam often spoke of Allah's absolute power, His ability to transcend all limitations. Clutching a handful of kadis—the remnants of a bygone era's humble currency—Rafid's small legs carried him with urgent purpose towards the sanctuary of the mosque.
Standing at the threshold of this sacred place, a tremor of apprehension ran through him. Yet, the urgency of his need propelled him forward. With a voice barely above a whisper, he addressed the Imam, "Imam Sahib, I have these kadis. Can I purchase Allah with them? My mother is gravely ill, and I desperately need Allah to save her."
The Imam, a man whose heart was imbued with wisdom and compassion, regarded the earnest young boy with gentle surprise. He placed a comforting hand upon Rafid's head and with a voice filled with tenderness, explained, "My dear son, Allah is not an object to be bought or sold. He is the Most Holy (القدوس), the Magnificent (العظيم), beyond all earthly possessions. However, know this with certainty, as Allah Himself declares in the Holy Quran: 'And your Lord says, 'Call upon Me; I will respond to you.'" [Quran, 40:60]
Rafid's small shoulders slumped momentarily, yet his unwavering resolve did not falter. He clung to the Imam's garment, his voice thick with emotion: "Then please, Imam Sahib, I implore you, make supplication (دوا) to Allah for my mother. Plead with Him to grant her healing (الشفاء)."
At that moment, the Imam's eyes, witnesses to countless joys and sorrows within the community, welled up with tears. He embraced the young boy, his heart moved by the purity of his imaan (إيمان). "My precious child," he said, his voice filled with heartfelt sincerity, "have absolute faith in Allah's boundless mercy. He is the Healer (الشافعي), and He never turns away a sincere plea. Let us raise our hands together in dua (دعاء) and beseech Allah for your mother's swift recovery." And so they did, their voices rising in unison, a poignant testament to the power of a child's innocent faith and an Imam's compassionate heart.
From that day forward, Rafid became a constant presence in the mosque. Each day, his small hands would reach towards the heavens, his heart overflowing with earnest prayers for his mother's well-being. In his innocent soul resided an unshakeable conviction—that Allah, in His infinite wisdom and mercy, would surely heed his plea and alleviate their suffering. As Allah states in the Quran, "And when My servants ask you, [O Muhammad], concerning Me -indeed, I am near. I respond to the invocation of the supplicant when he calls upon Me. So let them respond to Me [by obedience] and believe in Me that they may be [rightly] guided." [Quran, 2:186]
Days turned into nights, and the whispers of Rafid's unwavering faith reached beyond the mosque walls. In the tapestry of the village, a thread of compassion was woven. A kind-hearted soul, touched by the boy's profound devotion and the mother's silent suffering, stepped forward with quiet generosity. Unseen and unacknowledged, this individual bore the entire financial burden of the mother's treatment. And as Allah promises in the Quran: "And whoever fears Allah - He will make for him a way out. And will provide for him from where he does not expect." [Quran, 65:2-3]
By the grace of Allah, the mother's health began to improve. Slowly but surely, the pallor of illness receded, replaced by the returning glow of life. The day she was finally discharged from the hospital was a day of unimaginable joy for young child. He raced to the mosque, his heart overflowing with gratitude, to share the miraculous news with the Imam.
The Imam, his face radiating warmth and understanding, smiled gently and affirmed, *"(سبحان الله) Glory be to Allah! See, my dear Rafid, how all-encompassing is Allah's mercy! He has indeed heard your heartfelt prayers. As our beloved Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him) said: 'Dua (supplication) is the essence of worship.'" [Tirmidhi]
His eyes wide with wonder, then posed the question that lingered in his mind, "But Imam Sahib, who was this kind person who bore the immense cost of my mother's treatment?"
The Imam's voice held a profound wisdom as he replied, *"My son, that individual was but an instrument of Allah's divine will. Allah often chooses to help His servants through the actions of others. It was the purity of your imaan, your unwavering belief in Allah's power and mercy, that moved Him to send aid in this way. Remember the words of our Prophet (peace be upon him): 'Allah helps the servant as long as the servant helps his brother.'" [Muslim]
This remarkable incident serves as a timeless testament to the unparalleled power of faith. When we turn to Allah with sincerity, with a heart devoid of doubt, He manifests His help in ways we can scarcely imagine. The esteemed Imam Ghazali (may Allah have mercy on him) eloquently stated, "The beginning of knowledge is the intention, then listening, then understanding, then action, then preservation, then spreading it." Let us, therefore, internalise this lesson and share its wisdom with others.
Dear readers, let us strengthen the bonds of our imaan and remember the profound words of Allah in the Quran: "Indeed, the believers are brothers, so reconcile between your brothers and fear Allah that you may receive mercy." [Quran, 49:10] Let us lift each other in prayer and extend a hand of kindness to those in need, embodying the spirit of compassion that lies at the heart of our faith.
Remember the powerful words of our beloved Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him): "Whoever guides [others] to an act of goodness will have a reward equivalent to that of its doer." [Sahih Muslim, Hadith 2674]
Therefore, I urge you, share this inspiring narrative far and wide. Let its light illuminate hearts, strengthen imaan, and remind us all of the boundless mercy of Allah. Your single share may be the catalyst for someone's renewed faith and a source of immense reward for you in this life and the Hereafter.
May Allah grant us unwavering faith, steadfastness in prayer, and the wisdom to recognize His infinite grace in all aspects of our lives. (أأ مين)
